Malayalam cinema’s powerhouse performer Prithviraj Sukumaran has announced his involvement in a new Hindi film titled ‘Daayra.’ The actor shared the exciting news on his Instagram account on the auspicious occasion of Vishu, the Malayalam New Year.

In his post, Prithviraj revealed his deep connection to the project, writing, “Some stories stay with you from the moment you hear them. DAAYRA is that for me.” The announcement was accompanied by an official poster featuring the film’s title and the names of the principal team members involved.

The film marks a significant Bollywood collaboration for the Malayalam star, who will be working with acclaimed director Meghna Gulzar and popular actress Kareena Kapoor Khan. The project is being produced by Junglee Pictures, known for content-driven films like ‘Talvar,’ ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi,’ and ‘Badhaai Ho.’

While specific details about the film’s plot remain under wraps, the involvement of Meghna Gulzar suggests it might be a subject of substance. Gulzar is known for her hard-hitting films like ‘Raazi,’ ‘Chhapaak,’ and most recently ‘Sam Bahadur,’ which dealt with complex social and political themes.

This announcement comes at a time when Prithviraj is enjoying significant success with his recent release ‘L2E: Empuraan,’ the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘Lucifer.’ The film, which stars Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in the lead role, has been breaking box office records since its release earlier this month.

According to Prithviraj’s recent social media updates, ‘Empuraan’ has achieved several milestones, including becoming the first Malayalam film to surpass $1 million in box office collections in Saudi Arabia. It has also set records by accumulating over 100 crores in worldwide theatrical share, a first in Malayalam cinema history.

Prithviraj Sukumaran, who began his career in 2002, has established himself as one of the most versatile actors in Indian cinema. Beyond acting, he has successfully ventured into directing, producing, and playback singing. His directorial debut ‘Lucifer’ starring Mohanlal was a massive commercial success, leading to the ‘L2E: Empuraan’ sequel which is currently in theaters.

The actor-director appears to be juggling multiple high-profile projects simultaneously. Just days before announcing ‘Daayra,’ Prithviraj shared news about another film titled ‘Nobody,’ which recently began production. This Malayalam thriller will see him starring alongside acclaimed actress Parvathy Thiruvothu, with Nissam Basheer directing.

‘Nobody’ is being jointly produced by Prithviraj Productions, the actor’s own banner, and E4 Experiments. The film will feature music by Harshavardhan Rameshwar, who gained recognition for his work in the Bollywood hit ‘Animal.’

In his Instagram post about ‘Daayra,’ Prithviraj also tagged several team members including Vineet Jain, Amrita Pandey, Yash Keswani, Sima Agarwal, Akshay Valsangkar, and others who are likely part of the film’s production team.

While Prithviraj has predominantly worked in Malayalam cinema, he has previously appeared in Hindi films including ‘Aiyaa’ (2012) opposite Rani Mukerji and ‘Aurangzeb’ (2013) with Arjun Kapoor. ‘Daayra’ marks his return to Bollywood after a considerable gap.

The actor concluded his announcement with Vishu wishes for his followers, highlighting the significance of the project being announced on an auspicious day. Vishu, celebrated predominantly in Kerala, marks the Malayalam New Year and is considered an important festival symbolizing prosperity and hope.

Fans and film enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting further details about ‘Daayra,’ especially regarding Prithviraj’s character and the film’s storyline. Given the track records of Meghna Gulzar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, expectations are already high for this cross-industry collaboration.

As this project moves forward, it represents another significant step in the increasing integration between different film industries in India, with talent increasingly working across language barriers to create compelling cinema.
