In a heartwarming Instagram post, the 89-year-old actor shared a black-and-white photograph capturing the moment when legendary actor Dilip Kumar blessed Sunny Deol at the mahurat ceremony of his debut film, Betaab.
In his caption, Dharmendra wrote in Hindi: “Dalip saheb ka pyaar bhara duayen dete haath Sunny ko film BETAB ke mahurat par hi naseeb ho gaya tha.” (Sunny was fortunate to receive the loving, blessing hand of Dalip saheb at the mahurat of the film BETAAB itself), followed by heart emojis.

Dilip Kumar, widely regarded as one of Indian cinema’s greatest actors, was known to share a warm relationship with Dharmendra, who has often expressed his admiration and respect for the late legend.

The film ‘Betaab’, released in 1983, marked Sunny Deol’s acting debut opposite Amrita Singh. Dharmendra, whose full name is Dharmendra Singh Deol, has had a remarkable career spanning over six decades in Indian cinema. Born in Punjab on December 8, 1935, he moved to Mumbai to pursue acting and made his debut in 1960. Throughout his career, he has appeared in over 300 films across various genres, earning the nickname ‘He-Man’ of Indian cinema.
In another recent post, Dharmendra reflected on his journey, saying, “Friends, Born to entertain and inspire you…. Love you all be happy healthy and strong.”
The actor has been married twice – to Prakash Kaur, with whom he has two sons, Sunny and Bobby Deol, and to actress Hema Malini, with whom he has two daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol. His family has established itself as one of the prominent film dynasties in Bollywood.
