Veteran Bollywood actor Gulshan Grover, widely known as the ‘Bad Man’ of Indian cinema, recently took to Instagram to reminisce about his past collaboration with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The post highlights his longstanding commitment to animal welfare causes, which stands in stark contrast to his villainous on-screen persona.

In his Instagram post, Grover shared how a recent news article reminded him of an advertisement campaign he did for PETA. The actor expressed satisfaction that animal cruelty is now being taken more seriously by authorities, noting that at the time of his campaign, the fine for animal cruelty was merely fifty rupees.

“Saw this news article a couple of days ago—reminded me of an ad I did for PETA with my friend the very talented Bollywood bad man @gulshangrover. I’m glad this crime is being taken more seriously now. At that time the fine was I believe just fifty rupees,” reads the caption of his post.

This isn’t the first time Grover has been associated with animal rights causes. In fact, PETA India recently acknowledged his contributions to their movement in a separate post. According to PETA India’s Instagram account, despite being Bollywood’s iconic ‘Bad Man,’ Grover has been a true hero when it comes to animals.

PETA India’s post revealed that Grover has been actively involved in various animal welfare campaigns over the years, including speaking out for Sunder, a captive elephant, and criticizing the leather industry. “From speaking out for Sunder, the captive elephant, to bashing the real-life villains of the leather trade, he’s used his power for good,” PETA India shared. The organization also thanked the actor for being part of their 25-year journey of compassion and change, highlighting his significant role in their advocacy efforts.

The actor’s post resonates with the current shift in public and legal attitudes toward animal welfare in India, showing how far the movement has come since his initial involvement.

Grover’s long-term association with PETA underscores the impact celebrities can have when they lend their voice to important causes. By using his public platform to advocate for animal rights, Grover has contributed to raising awareness and potentially influencing policy changes regarding animal welfare in India.

As animal protection laws continue to evolve in India, celebrities like Grover who have championed these causes from earlier days can take some satisfaction in seeing the progress made. From a nominal fifty-rupee fine to more comprehensive penalties, the journey reflects a gradual but significant shift in how society values and protects animal rights.

Grover’s reflection serves as a reminder of both how far animal welfare legislation has come in India and how much further it still needs to go to ensure adequate protection for all animals.
