Netflix is set to unveil its newest series ‘The Royals’ on May 9, featuring Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar in leading roles as characters caught between family obligations and romance.

The streaming platform recently released a promotional post for the upcoming series with the caption “Parivaar ya pyaar?” (Family or love?), hinting at the central conflict that will drive the narrative. The post reveals that characters Aamkumari and Rajkumar, presumably played by Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter respectively, will soon find themselves in a complicated situation.

The promotional image shows what appears to be a royal setting with characters dressed in regal attire, emphasizing the royal family theme of the series.

Star-studded Ensemble

‘The Royals’ boasts an impressive ensemble cast alongside Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar. The series features veteran actors like Sakshi Tanwar, Zeenat Aman, and Chunky Pandey, along with popular names such as Nora Fatehi, Milind Soman, Dino Morea, and Udit Narayan.

Other cast members mentioned in the promotional materials include Vihaansmat, Kavya Trehan, Lisa Mishra, Luke Kenny, Yashaswini Dayama, and Adinath Kothare, making this one of the most star-studded Indian original series on Netflix in recent times.

The series is produced by Pritish Nandy Communications, with Pritish Nandy, Rangita Pritish Nandy, and Ishita Pritish Nandy involved in the production.

What To Expect From ‘the Royals’

While specific plot details remain under wraps, the promotional material suggests that ‘The Royals’ will explore the conflict between family duties and personal desires within a royal household. The tagline “Parivaar ya pyaar?” (Family or love?) indicates that the central characters will likely face difficult choices between upholding royal traditions and following their hearts.

The series appears to be set in a contemporary royal household, possibly inspired by the many former royal families of India who continue to maintain their heritage and traditions despite the abolishment of royal titles decades ago.

With its impressive cast and intriguing premise, ‘The Royals’ is positioned to appeal to viewers interested in family dramas set against lavish backdrops, similar to international hits like ‘The Crown’ but with a distinctly Indian context and sensibility.

With ‘The Royals’ set to stream from May 9, viewers can look forward to witnessing this royal drama unfold, complete with power struggles, forbidden romance, and the grandeur of royal life – all through the modern lens that Netflix productions typically offer.
