Kamaal R Khan (KRK) recently commented on the upcoming biopic of Shivaji Maharaj, which is being made by Ritesh and Sandeep differently. In his Instagram post where he simply stated that Deshmujkh is making the film on Shivaji Maharaj in both Hindi and Marathi languages. While details remain scarce, the dual-language approach suggests Deshmukh is aiming for both national reach and regional authenticity for this historical project.

Khan further revealed that the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the legendary Maratha ruler, is set to be celebrated on the big screen with not just one but multiple ambitious biopics, each helmed by prominent figures in Indian cinema. Both Riteish Deshmukh and Sandeep Singh are working on separate cinematic projects, each aiming to capture the grandeur and historical significance of Shivaji Maharaj’s life.

The upcoming biopic marks Deshmukh’s directorial debut and features him in the lead role as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film, produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh under Mumbai Film Company in collaboration with Jio Studios, is set to release in 2025 and aims to depict the legendary warrior’s life and legacy.

Meanwhile, Sandeep Singh, known for producing acclaimed films like Mary Kom and Jhund, is making his directorial debut with The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. National Award-winning actor Rishab Shetty will portray Shivaji Maharaj in this epic, which promises to be a magnum opus with grand visuals, action sequences, and a global appeal.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj remains one of India’s most revered historical figures, particularly in Maharashtra where he is celebrated as a visionary leader who established the Maratha Empire in the 17th century, challenging the Mughal rule. His military prowess, administrative skills, and progressive governance have made him an enduring symbol of Marathi pride and Indian resilience. With his enduring legacy as a visionary leader, Shivaji Maharaj’s story is finding fresh resonance in contemporary cinema.

The simultaneous development of these high-profile biopics underscores the enduring influence of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. While Riteish Deshmukh’s ‘Raja Shivaji’ aims to blend regional authenticity with pan-Indian appeal, Sandeep Singh’s ‘The Pride of Bharat’ aspires to set new benchmarks in historical cinema with its scale and ambition. Audiences can look forward to two distinct cinematic tributes to one of India’s greatest warrior kings, each shaped by the creative vision of its makers.
