In a video posted on Adishakti Theater’s official Instagram account @adishaktitheater, Naga Chaitanya shares details about the Remembering Veenapani Festival, which aims to honor the visionary artist who left an indelible mark on India’s theatrical tradition. He highlights Veenapani’s perspective on art that exists beyond traditional mediums, speaking directly to humanity through voice, movement, and meaningful silence.

“The charismatic Naga Chaitanya—heir to a cinematic legacy yet an artist in his own right—graces our festival with thoughts on theatre’s transformative essence. He captures Adishakti’s mission: creating art that moves through you rather than simply before you,” says the caption under the video.

The Remembering Veenapani Festival is a free cultural event, accessible to all who wish to experience the transformative power of theater. Further, it not only honors the legacy of a theatrical pioneer but also provides a platform for contemporary artists to showcase their work and tell their stories, creating a meaningful dialogue between traditional theatrical forms and modern artistic expression. It will feature a range of performances that embody Veenapani’s artistic vision.

The festival is currently ongoing (scheduled from 13th to 19th April) at the Sir Ratan Tata Koothu Kovil within the Adishakti Laboratory for Theatre Art Research. It is located near Auroville, which is known for its vibrant artistic community and cultural significance.

By lending his voice to this cultural celebration, Naga Chaitanya demonstrates an understanding of art’s transformative power and its ability to bridge communities, languages, and artistic traditions across India.
