What began as a casual conversation during a drive in search of good Indian food has now transformed into one of the UAE’s fastest-selling luxury real estate projects. Bollywood actor and entrepreneur Vivek Oberoi recently shared how his latest venture, Taj Wellington Mews in Al Marjan Island, went from dream to reality.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Oberoi revealed that the inspiration for bringing the iconic Taj Hotels brand to the UAE struck during a drive with Ankur Aggarwal. “Some of the most significant dreams aren’t born within the confines of boardrooms,” wrote Oberoi. “Ours began on long, reflective drives. Just a few months ago, my brother and I found ourselves navigating the scenic roads of Al Marjan Island in between our work meetings, on a quest for good Indian food.”
During that drive, Oberoi noticed the impressive skyline adorned with world-renowned luxury brands, yet observed a conspicuous absence of prestigious Indian names. This observation sparked an ambitious idea that he shared with his brother: “One day, we’ll bring Taj Hotels here.”
Record-breaking Success
The response to the project has been nothing short of remarkable. Within the first 24 hours of launch, 97 units of Taj Wellington Mews were reserved, establishing it as one of the UAE’s fastest-selling real estate developments.
The project represents a significant milestone as it combines Taj Hotels’ 122-year legacy with BNW Developments’ innovative approach to real estate.
A Tribute To Ratan Tata
In his post, Oberoi paid tribute to the late Ratan Tata, acknowledging his foundational role in making this project possible: “To the late Mr. Ratan Tata, this moment would not be possible without the foundation you laid. Your quiet compassion and enduring legacy of principled action continue to be our guiding light. In spirit and soul, this project is a heartfelt dedication to you.”
Growing Portfolio In UAE
This isn’t BNW Developments’ first project in the region. Earlier this month, Oberoi had announced another development called Aquino on Al Marjan Island, featuring fully furnished 1-3 bedroom residences that blend “timeless elegance with future-ready living.”
The actor-entrepreneur has been increasingly focusing on his business ventures in the UAE. Just last month, BNW was officially recognized as a Great Place to Work, celebrating its corporate culture built on “trust, collaboration, and innovation” with a team of more than 400 individuals from over 20 nationalities.
Key Partnerships For Success
Oberoi expressed gratitude to numerous partners who made the project possible, including Puneet Chhatwal, Saurabh Tiwari, Rohan Ranade, and Yadu Mittal from the Taj Hotels side. He also thanked Mr. Abdulla Al Abdouli and the Marjan Authority team, as well as Mr. Khalifa and the Ras Al Khaimah RERA team for their guidance.
Special appreciation was extended to His Highness Sheikh Saud for “fostering an environment where dreamers are empowered to build boldly and contribute to this remarkable nation.”
Balancing Entertainment And Business
While focusing on his entrepreneurial endeavors, Oberoi maintains his presence in the entertainment industry. He recently reflected on his role as Bobby in the Malayalam film “Lucifer” where he worked alongside legends like Mohanlal, Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas, and Manju Warrier.
Oberoi is also set to appear in the upcoming film “Kesari Veer: Legends of Somnath,” scheduled for a worldwide release on May 16, 2025, where he will play the character Zafar Khan.
Additionally, the actor recently attended an event featuring Sadhguru and artist Sacha Jafri, describing it as “an evening that felt like a shared dream, where Sadhguru’s words danced in our minds, mirroring the vibrant hues Sacha Jafri painted onto our very souls.”
A Purpose-driven Approach
For Oberoi, the success of Taj Wellington Mews represents more than just a profitable business venture. As he noted in his post, the overwhelming response “wasn’t driven by a pursuit of mere prestige. It was fueled by a deeper pursuit: purpose.”
This philosophy aligns with his broader approach to business, as evidenced by BNW’s corporate culture and commitment to creating environments where people “feel empowered, supported, and inspired.”
With the remarkable success of Taj Wellington Mews, Vivek Oberoi has cemented his position not just as a Bollywood actor but as a visionary entrepreneur making significant inroads in the UAE’s competitive luxury real estate market.
