Actress and content creator Barkha Singh recently made a special visit to one of Tokyo’s most beloved landmarks – the Hachiko statue in Shibuya. The social media star shared glimpses of her encounter with the famous bronze statue known for its touching backstory.
Meeting The Faithful Dog
Singh posted a series of photos on Instagram showcasing her visit to the iconic statue, which commemorates the loyal Akita dog who waited for his owner at Shibuya Station every day, even years after his owner’s death. In her caption, Singh noted Hachiko’s distinctive “one droopy ear” and expressed her desire to have a Hachiko of her own.
The images show Singh posing next to the bronze statue, which has become one of Tokyo’s most popular meeting spots and tourist attractions. Located outside Shibuya Station, the statue stands as a symbol of loyalty and devotion.
In her post, Singh wrote: “Went to meet #Hachiko with his one droopy ear ♥️♥️ Posed a little on the way. Now I want a Hachiko for myself.”
The actress, looking stylish in a casual outfit, seemed genuinely moved by the experience, as evidenced by her affectionate caption and poses with the statue.
Exploring Japan
This visit appears to be part of Singh’s ongoing exploration of Japan, as indicated by her hashtags #japan #tokyo #travelwithB #travel #streetstyle #traveldiaries #shibuya #shibuyascramblesquare #shibuyacrossing.
The Hachiko statue visit is just one highlight of what seems to be an extensive Japanese adventure for Singh. Based on her recent Instagram posts, she has been actively documenting her travels throughout the country, creating a series of content under the hashtag #TravelwithB.
In previous posts from her Japan trip, Singh shared visits to Nara, where she interacted with the city’s famous deer population. She described Nara as “the first permanent capital of Japan” and visited significant shrines, including Kasuga-Taisha (Kasuga Grand Shrine), established in 768 AD, and Tōdai-ji (Eastern Great Temple), which houses the world’s largest bronze statue of Gautam Buddha.
Singh also explored Nishiki Market in Kyoto, often referred to as “Kyoto’s kitchen.” She provided detailed recommendations for vegetarian-friendly dining options, including veg croquettes, soy doughnuts, Japanese rolled omelettes, sake tasting, mixed vegetable tempura, and traditional Japanese desserts like custard-filled pancakes and mochi.
The Legend Of Hachiko
The Hachiko statue that captured Singh’s heart commemorates one of Japan’s most touching stories. Hachiko was an Akita dog who belonged to Professor Hidesaburō Ueno in the 1920s. Every day, Hachiko would wait at Shibuya Station for his owner to return from work.
After the professor died unexpectedly in 1925, Hachiko continued to wait at the station every day for nearly ten years until his own death in 1935. This extraordinary display of loyalty touched the hearts of the Japanese people, and a bronze statue was erected in his honor in 1934, with Hachiko himself present at the unveiling.
Today, the statue serves as both a popular meeting point and a reminder of the bond between humans and their animal companions. Visitors from around the world, like Singh, come to pay their respects to the faithful dog whose story has inspired books, films, and countless travelers.
