Promoting ‘Phule’ Across Platforms
This isn’t the first time Patralekha has promoted the film on social media. In previous posts, she has shared behind-the-scenes glimpses of the production. Just a few days earlier, she posted images with the caption “#SavitriBaiPhule in theaters on the 11th of April..” and another set of behind-the-scenes photos captioned “BTS #Phule on 11th of April in theaters..”
The images reveal the extensive preparation that went into creating the period drama, including elaborate costumes and set designs that transport viewers to 19th-century Maharashtra.
The Story Of Revolutionary Reformers
‘Phule’ tells the story of Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule, pioneering social reformers who fought against caste-based discrimination and championed women’s education in 19th-century India. Jyotirao Phule founded one of India’s first schools for girls in 1848, and together with his wife Savitribai, worked tirelessly against social inequality.
The film aims to bring their revolutionary story to mainstream audiences, highlighting their contributions to education reform and social justice that were far ahead of their time.
Patralekha, who portrays Savitribai Phule, has been actively involved in promoting the film’s message of education and equality. Her recent fashion photoshoots for the film’s promotion have showcased her in both traditional Indian attire from designers like Raw Mango and Anavila, as well as contemporary Western outfits.
Patralekha’s Journey In Cinema
Patralekha Paul made her acting debut in the 2014 film ‘CityLights’ opposite Rajkummar Rao, for which she received critical acclaim. She has since appeared in films like ‘Love Games’ and the web series ‘Bose: Dead/Alive.’
The actress has been balancing her career between content-driven roles and fashion-forward appearances. Her recent Instagram posts showcase her versatility, from embodying the historical character of Savitribai Phule to modeling designer outfits from brands like Vivienne Westwood, Valentino, and Hermes.
In March 2024, Patralekha also announced the launch of ‘Kampa Film,’ a production house she has started. The name ‘Kampa’ is a combination of her and her partner’s mothers’ names, as she mentioned in the announcement post that “Nothing good happens in life without mother’s blessings.”
With ‘Phule’ now playing in theaters, Patralekha is at an interesting juncture in her career, balancing acting in meaningful biographical roles while also venturing into film production.
The Creative Partnership With Pratik Gandhi
The on-screen chemistry between Patralekha and Pratik Gandhi has been highlighted in the film’s promotion. Pratik Gandhi, who gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of stockbroker Harshad Mehta in the series ‘Scam 1992,’ brings his acclaimed acting skills to the role of Jyotirao Phule.
Patralekha’s warm acknowledgment of Gandhi as both an exceptional actor and a kind person suggests a positive working relationship that likely enhanced their portrayal of the historical couple’s pioneering partnership.
As ‘Phule’ continues its theatrical run, the film adds to the growing catalog of Indian biographical dramas that aim to educate audiences about historical figures who made significant social contributions but may not be as widely celebrated in popular culture.
