In a refreshing display of modern motherhood, actress and wellness advocate Lisa Ray has offered a glimpse into the delicate balancing act of self-care and family responsibilities during her stay at a naturopathic retreat in Kerala.
The post shows Lisa in a serene mountain setting, at the Prakriti Shakti retreat, messaging her children’s nanny while enjoying the natural surroundings, perfectly capturing the essence of a mother who never fully disconnects from home responsibilities even while taking necessary time for herself.
The Working Mom’s Reality, Even In Paradise
“When you’re on a wellness retreat but still managing your home from the mountains,” Ray posted on Instagram, adding, “Mamas never entirely switch off! Any other mama agree?”
The 53-year-old model, actress, author, and cancer survivor has been documenting her stay at Prakriti Shakti, a naturopathic hospital nestled in the hills of Panchalimedu in Kerala. Despite being miles away from her family, Ray acknowledges the invisible threads that keep mothers connected to their homes.
However, she did celebrate one achievement that many parents of young children will recognize as significant: “At least I managed to read an entire book (a rather daunting feat at home with 6 year old twins).”
Finding Balance After Health Challenges
Ray’s wellness journey takes on deeper meaning when considering her health history. In 2009, she was diagnosed with blood cancer. Her battle with cancer transformed her approach to health and wellbeing, making these wellness retreats an essential part of her recovery and ongoing health maintenance.
In a previous post about her current retreat, Ray explained her reasons for seeking this healing time: “To get healed, to feel healthy in my body again, to let go of some emotions, to rediscover the beauty in being, to feel the earth, to balance my gut, to lose a few kilos, to breathe deeply, to sleep, to connect with my inner healer, to contemplate, to eat for cellular health, to shift perspective.”
She added that the ultimate goal was “to remember what it feels like to be me” so she could “return better.”
A Mother’s Necessary Guilt-free Break
As her retreat nears its conclusion, Ray expressed gratitude to her family for supporting what she calls an “essential break.” Her message to other mothers is clear: prioritize self-care without guilt.
“I feel I’ve cracked the longevity code: honour yourself and prioritise well-being enough to book that break, guilt free!” she wrote.
Lisa Ray’s Wellness Journey Beyond Cancer
Ray’s wellness advocacy extends beyond her personal journey. Since her cancer diagnosis, she has become a prominent voice for health awareness, participating in campaigns like the “Carry The Fire” movement for The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, where she received her treatment.
Beyond her health advocacy, Ray has recently been celebrating her age, embracing what she calls “53 and thriving” in several posts. Just before her retreat, she shared a body transformation post through her trainer, who noted that Ray had shed 15% body fat and gained lean muscle despite “navigating menopause and traveling the globe and being a mother of two.”
As Lisa Ray prepares to return home from her Kerala retreat, her message resonates with mothers everywhere: balancing self-care with family responsibilities isn’t just possible – it’s essential for long-term wellbeing and happiness.
