Baba Sehgal, India’s original rap pioneer, has teased his latest musical creation on Instagram. The artist shared a snippet of what appears to be his upcoming song titled “To Tomato Ketchup” with his signature blend of quirky wordplay and food references.

In the Instagram video, Sehgal can be seen performing the catchy hook: “To Tomato Ketchup, To Tomato Ketchup, Bahot time ho gaya baby, Let’s Catch up Catch up.” The post, captioned with these same lyrics, is accompanied by hashtags including #tomato, #ketchup, #food, #eggs, #girlfriend, #newsong, and #love.

Food And Relationships: Sehgal’s Signature Style

The new track appears to cleverly use the condiment as a metaphor for reconnecting with a romantic partner, continuing Sehgal’s tradition of food-themed wordplay that has become his trademark over the decades.

The video shows Sehgal in his characteristic energetic style, delivering the lyrics with enthusiasm while eggs can be seen in the background, linking to one of the hashtags in his post.

Consistent Content Creation

This release comes as part of Sehgal’s steady stream of content on social media. Just days before this announcement, Sehgal shared a tribute to legendary singer Kishore Kumar, urging fans: “Let’s do this together. Tum bhi Chalo, Hum bhi Chalein.” He has also been posting what he calls “Sehgal Baba ka Gyaan” (Sehgal Baba’s Wisdom), where he delivers life advice through rhyming couplets. One such recent post reads: “Roz paani piyo pyaar sey, Khud ko promote karo prachaar sey, Khaane mein taste lao aachar sey, Mat kachra phenko car sey, Jeet ka ehsaas karo haar sey.”

The Rap Pioneer’s Evolution

Baba Sehgal, born Harjeet Singh Sehgal, made history as India’s first rap star in the early 1990s. His breakthrough album “Thanda Thanda Pani” (1992), adapted from Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby,” became a massive hit and established him as a pioneer in the Indian hip-hop scene.

Sehgal has released numerous albums in Hindi, English, and Telugu languages. His career spans over three decades, during which he has maintained relevance by continuously adapting to changing trends while maintaining his distinctive style.

Beyond music, Sehgal has also appeared in films and television shows, demonstrating his versatility as an entertainer. His unique brand of humor and wordplay has helped him maintain a strong following even in the age of social media.

Mumbai City Chronicles

Interestingly, Sehgal has also been sharing snippets of what appears to be a track about Mumbai city. In one recent post captioned “Mumbai City – The Truth,” he raps: “Kandivali Borivali Bandra Churchgate, Hawa mein latka rehta hai har kisi ka Fate, Daba hua hai boriyon mein dher saara Cash, Milti hai Ash yahan milti hai Hash.”

Another post featuring more lyrics about Mumbai showcases his ability to capture urban life through sharp observations: “Jam jam har signal mein hai traffic jam, Aam hota rehta hai karodon ka scam.”

Through his various posts, Sehgal continues to share his life philosophy with fans. In one recent video, he advises: “Koi hill mein hai, Koi bill mein hai, Koi dil mein hai, Koi will mein hai, Apni soch ko Rocket bana, Agar bank balance Nil mein hai.”

This approach of mixing humor, wordplay, and life lessons has become Sehgal’s signature style over the years, helping him connect with audiences across generations.

As fans await the full release of “To Tomato Ketchup,” they can expect more of Sehgal’s characteristic blend of food references, relationship themes, and catchy rhythms that have made him an enduring figure in Indian music.
