A special thanks to @vijayjdarda ji for the honour.’ The accompanying image shows the singer elegantly dressed in traditional attire, graciously accepting the award on stage.

Vijay Darda, who Krishnamurti specially thanked in her post, is the Chairman of Lokmat Media Group, one of Maharashtra’s leading media companies. The Sur Jyotsana Awards have been established to recognize excellence in the field of music.

A Celebrated Career

Kavita Krishnamurti is one of India’s most celebrated playback singers with a career spanning over four decades. Born in Delhi, she has lent her voice to numerous hit songs in various Indian languages, particularly in Hindi cinema. Her versatility and technical prowess have made her one of the most respected names in the industry.

Krishnamurti began her career in the early 1980s and rose to prominence with songs like ‘Hawa Hawai’ from Mr. India, ‘Nimbooda’ from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and ‘Maar Dala’ from Devdas. She has worked with legendary music directors including R.D. Burman, A.R. Rahman, and Ismail Darbar. Krishnamurti is married to violin maestro Dr. L. Subramaniam, with whom she frequently collaborates on various musical projects. Their partnership has resulted in several acclaimed fusion works blending Indian classical traditions with Western orchestration.

Recent Musical Endeavors

The award comes at a time when Krishnamurti continues to be actively involved in various musical projects. Just recently, she shared her work ‘Eri Main To’ from the album Mystic Meera, a special project recorded with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. The orchestral arrangement was done by her husband, Dr. L. Subramaniam, and conducted by Maestro Marcel N Verhoeff.

In another recent post, Krishnamurti showcased ‘Arulpurivaay,’ a kriti composed by Dr. L Subramaniam in the Shubhapantuvarali raga. The piece was created in praise of Goddess Sharada of Sringeri, highlighting the couple’s deep connection to traditional Indian classical music.

Additionally, Krishnamurti recently lent her voice to ‘Shabri,’ described as ‘A Soulful Tribute to the biggest Female Ram Bhakt.’ The song, composed by Asit Tripathy with lyrics by MST, was released on the official record label of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, demonstrating her continued relevance across different musical genres and audiences.

Performance And Recognition

Krishnamurti maintains an active performance schedule. She recently performed at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao for International Women’s Day celebrations and was also seen on the popular TV show Indian Idol alongside fellow singers Udit Narayan, Shreya Ghoshal, Badshah, and Aditya Narayan.

This latest award joins a list of accolades the singer has received throughout her distinguished career. Earlier this year, she was honored with the Smriti Award instituted in the memory of Shri. Munnu Guru in Kanpur, marking another recognition of her contribution to Indian music.

Krishnamurti is also involved in music education and discourse. She recently participated in the Rang O Adab – Festival of Literature on Music at Bihar Museum, where she spoke about the ‘Journey of Notes – From classical to cinema,’ sharing insights from her extensive experience straddling different musical worlds.

The Sur Jyotsana Legend in Music Award further cements Kavita Krishnamurti’s status as one of India’s most accomplished and versatile vocalists, recognizing her immense contribution to the country’s rich musical heritage.
