Legendary vocalist Kavita Krishnamurti has announced the release of her new song “Eri Main To” from the album Mystic Meera. The veteran singer shared this special musical project on her Instagram account, describing it as one of her most cherished works.

What makes this release particularly notable is the international collaboration behind it. “Eri Main To” was recorded with the prestigious City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Marcel N Verhoeff. The orchestral arrangement was crafted by her husband, the renowned violinist and composer Dr. L Subramaniam.

The Instagram video features Kavita Krishnamurti performing the song, accompanied by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, a symphonic backdrop to the devotional piece. In her caption, Krishnamurti expressed her personal connection to this project, stating, “This is one of my special projects, I hope you enjoy listening to it.”

The Mystic Meera album is a devotional project centered around the works of Meera Bai, the 16th-century Hindu mystic poet and devotee of Lord Krishna. Meera’s bhajans (devotional songs) have been a significant part of the Indian classical and devotional music tradition for centuries.

Krishnamurti’s rendition, backed by a full philharmonic orchestra, represents an interesting fusion of Eastern devotional content with Western classical orchestration—a specialty that Dr. L Subramaniam has pioneered throughout his career.

For those uninitiated, Kavita Krishnamurti is one of India’s most celebrated playback singers with a career spanning several decades. She has recorded thousands of songs in 45 Indian languages and has been the voice behind numerous Bollywood hits since the 1980s.

Krishnamurti has remained active in the music scene, as evidenced by her recent Instagram posts. Earlier this year, she performed at Ravindra Bhavan in Margao for International Women’s Day celebrations. She was also honored with the Smriti Award, instituted in memory of Shri Munnu Guru, in Kanpur. Additionally, she has been promoting the 12th edition of the Sur Jyotsna Awards, which will be held in Bangalore at the Prestige Centre of Performing Arts.

The musical collaboration between Kavita Krishnamurti and Dr. L Subramaniam extends beyond their marriage. They have worked together on several projects, including “Arulpurivaay,” a kriti (compositional form in Carnatic music) composed by Dr. Subramaniam in the Shubhapantuvarali raga. This piece was composed in praise of Goddess Sharada of Sringeri, and Dr. Subramaniam has been honored as an asthana-vidvan (court musician) by the Sringeri Sharada Peetham.

As evidenced by the Mystic Meera album, Krishnamurti has been actively involved in devotional music projects. She recently lent her voice to “Shabri,” a tribute to a female devotee of Lord Ram. The song was composed by Asit Tripathy with lyrics by MST and released on RamTarang, the official record label of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

With the release of “Eri Main To,” Krishnamurti continues to expand her diverse musical portfolio, bridging traditional Indian devotional music with international orchestral arrangements.
